Jessica Shuford is an Alabama native who studied business at Troy University in Montgomery, AL before deciding she no longer wanted to accumulate student loan debt, but rather have a more hands on approach in learning what she considers a passion for her. She became an entrepreneur in 2008 after working and doing apprenticeships for CPAs and bookkeepers. Jessica was employed while still building her business in the process. In 2018, Jessica became a full-time entrepreneur while remaining coachable in her field of work. She realized soon after becoming a full-time entrepreneur, this wasn't a task for the faint hearted. Entrepreneurship is something that takes more than just financial knowledge, but also needs a dedicated mental approach, she stated. Growing up in a household with a single mom prompted Jessica at a young age to take a different approach in what she calls “the real world” and becoming financially stable was top on her list. Financial literacy wasn’t something taught in school and wasn’t amongst most black communities. She became more understanding that it was going to take a lot of un-learning in order to elevate and help others elevate within their finances. Jessica then took the liberty of becoming a certified life and business coach to help her community grow in the areas most African Americans are shield from.
For your finances to be right, your mind must get right first -Jessica

Dr. Amanda Lewis-Yarbrough, an Alabama native and mental health professional in the River Region, has a compelling passion for helping people. As one of the few African-American female psychologists licensed in the state of Alabama, she uses her platform to challenge the stigma of mental health both locally and nationally, especially among veterans and women of color.
Dr. Lewis-Yarbrough created Avondale and Associates Psychological Services, LLC, after seeing a need to help the community at large to normalize life’s stressors and prioritize mental health. She witnessed a disparity regarding access to affordable mental health services for individuals in the community and desired to provide a safe, nontraditional, and affordable platform to aid clients in finding balance and peace in their lives.
To accomplish this goal, Dr. Lewis-Yarbrough uses a cognitive behavioral approach to therapy with her clients to help manage their presenting concerns by changing the way they think and behave. By promoting self-awareness and emotional intelligence, she teaches and encourages her clients to "read" their emotions and distinguish healthy from unhealthy feelings and thoughts. Dr. Lewis-Yarbrough's distinct knowledge and experience spans several areas of expertise in psychology, including treating symptoms of depression, anxiety, trauma (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder), insomnia, tobacco cessation, substance use disorders, and chronic pain.
Dr. Lewis-Yarbrough earned her Doctorate of Philosophy in Clinical Psychology from Fielding Graduate University, an American Psychological Association accredited institution, in July 2020. Since that time, she has worked with the Veterans Administration where she provided behavioral healthcare consultations in a primary care setting to veterans in need of mental health services. In addition to her role as owner and mental healthcare provider at Avondale and Associates, Dr. Lewis-Yarbrough provides mental health services to Auburn University’s Accountability Based Sexual Offense Program where she performs psychological evaluations for juveniles in the Department of Youth Services and supervises assessment interns from local universities.
In her personal time, Dr. Lewis-Yarbrough enjoys playing golf, traveling, and being active as a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc. She also volunteers in her community and enjoys spending time with her family and friends.
